Word was starting to circulate yesterday morning at about this time that there had been a tragedy for the Dallas Cowboys in the broader NFL family.

It was announced by the Cowboys.

Yesterday mid-morning that Marshawn Neeland's second round pick in 2024, only 24 years old, had died.

As more details came out, it became obvious that Neeland's death was the result of an

apparent suicide. And it's just one of those that it, I feel like a knife in my stomach, as I even try to

write about it, talk about it, think about it.

It's a tragedy, and it just underscores so many things about modern life and the importance of

always making sure that the people in your orbit are okay and doing whatever you can to support the people

that that you are connected to because we're all connected to someone and we all have someone

who's there looking out for us and you know there's no one to blame when it happens.

It just underscores that moving forward, we should all try a little bit harder to help the people that we touch on a regular basis.

And I think in a lot of these situations, especially when it comes to pro sports, there are conversations about resources and counseling and therapy and making sure that all of these things are available

to professional athletes, which I agree with, but I would extend it to other industries as well.

I was talking to someone last week about our business,

about the media business, not necessarily in sports, but those covering news.

And my point was, I think we're naive to think that those who are the observers and the note

takers and the storytellers who are exposed to some pretty harsh realities covering them,

it's pretty naive to think that those things don't, that you don't absorb them yourself.

I think all industries, all industries should really highlight and

emphasize mental health resources. And so, and that was not, that was not a popular thing to say

even 10 years ago, 15 years ago in the media business, it was almost like, hey, cover the story because that's
