Welcome to 2023 A Year in Review, the 19th year in review special you've heard on

serious XM this year, and 2023 was a year that I'm still trying to make sense of,

a year that began with devastating political humiliation for Kevin McCarthy

and ended pretty much the same way.

Twitter corroded, a spy balloon exploded, abortion bans were outvoted and Ron DeSantis imploded. Not a great year for Silicon Valley Bank,

affirmative action at universities, titanic recotourism, dreams of a two-state

solution, or George Santos, but Donald Trump was indicted 91 times. Hunter

Biden is apparently going to pay for it. The party that spent my childhood telling me

to hate Russians for their violent military aggression spent 2023 telling me to lay off Vladimir Putin,

and Henry Kissinger finally found a surefire way to avoid going to the Hague.

My friends, this year never stopped to take a breath and maybe you didn't either so let's take stock of all we've had to take in process and survive with a very brilliant group of very special guests. I'm so pleased to welcome back Shaniqua McClendon. She's vice president of politics at crooked media,

which is of course home to the popular podcast,

Pod Save America, and so many other shows you love.

Ms. McClendon created Vote Save America,

a voter engagement program that helped create that blue wave of

Democratic victories in 2018, 2020, and 2022. Everyone thank her. It's raised

over 54 million directly for candidates. She began her career as a White House intern for President

Barack Obama and spearheaded the creation of the first ever congressional bipartisan HBCU caucus.
