Welcome to Rates and barrels. It is our 2023 second base preview. Derek Van Riper here with Enosaurus as we roll through the infield portion of the proceedings.

And, you know, second base is one of those positions that, depending on your perspective,

looks like it falls off pretty harsh.

But if you like kind of digging in the $5 player bargain bin in hopes of

finding a $10, $12, maybe a $15 player, you might actually see some fun in the second base pool.

And I think you seem to be more on that side. You seem to see the opportunity in a position

that doesn't really have stars.

You don't see anyone going anywhere near the first round with second base eligibility right now.

You see plenty of guys who should play a lot, at least available in the later rounds.

Yeah, there's no $30 second baseman by projections.

And I think that's almost an opportunity because once you get past the $20 second baseman,

Jose Altuve, Marcus Simeon, Jazz and Ozzy, maybe.

I'm saying maybe because as I sit here in front of the Bat X projections on the

auction calculator, they are listed at $17. But round up to 20 for those guys. They are the

stars of the position. Once you get past that, there's a gaggle of sort of $10 guys, $10 and $5 guys. In fact,

that gaggle continues for 15 players. And so I think you really only start to get in trouble with

playing time around Jean Segura, who is, you know, a $5 second basement,

the 23rd by the auction calculator.

But by average draft position, he is the 25th second basement, you know, and he's still projected for $5. So, you know, if I could wait

20 second baseman, or if I could wait, let's say, you know, 10 second baseman between Jake

Kronenworth at $8 and Cigura at five,

why would I reach and make sure I get Jake Croninworth, you know,
