It is our 2023 catchers and UT only player preview.

Why do we put the UT only players with the catchers?

Well, because catcher is such a historically gross position that we wanted to liven it up with some higher quality players.

And there's a bunch of catchers who are UT only, depending on your league rules.

So they actually fit particularly well together, especially since the quality of the catcher pool is better

than it's been in a long time. So we have a lot to dig into on this episode, as we do

for each and every position preview. We're breaking things down by ADP tiers, looking at

players, different clusters, trying to decide if it's a good idea

to invest in a particular range. So, we begin at the very top of the board. First catcher

off the board in pretty much every league I have seen so far this draft season, J.T. Ray Almuto,

who frequently goes inside the first two rounds. You get a little bit of a gap before you get to Dalton Varsho, Will Smith, usually within the first 50 picks or so, Adley Ruchman, not that far behind. And Salvador Perez was kind of right on the borderline of Tier 1 and Tier 2, but with an ADP around 65, I actually put them in Tier 1, even though there's a bit more of a gap in this cluster than there are some of the other positions. Nevertheless, we start at the very top. You know, you talked about some of your concerns. If you have an early first round position and the order comes back to you in a round two and you're picking somewhere between pick 25 and pick 30, depending on which of those positions you're in, you didn't feel as though you liked a lot of

players in that range.

And one guy that has more of a track record than some of the others in that cluster is, in fact, J.T.
