Summary

Eno and DVR kick off their annual Position Preview series with their breakdown of the shortstop position. The position is as loaded as it has ever been, and there are a lot of ways to leverage that depth throughout drafts and auctions this season.

Welcome to Rates and barrels.

0:16.8

It is Monday, January 31st, Derek Van Riper here with Enoseres as we begin our 22 position preview series, which, in a brilliant stroke of genius, I decided should begin with shortstop because we were watching the NFC championship game yesterday and kind of planning out the next month.

0:36.1

And instead of starting with Catcher, which is the most boring position it occurred to at least one of us, maybe both of us kind of simultaneously, the light bulb went off. Shortstop's a great position. Let's start there. People want to talk about all the great players they can get from this position, a lot of multi-eligible guys available as well. So the way our position preview series is going to work, we're going to use recent ADPs looking at the NFBC for the last two weeks, and we'll keep that moving over the course of the series. We're not just going to take a snapshot today and use that a month from now as we close the series out later. But just to see where things are going. Talk about players within the clusters where they're being drafted, talk about who's undervalued, who's overvalued, and try to get through all the relevant

1:13.9

questions about the players at this position. So a lot to get to over the course of an hour.

1:19.8

But shortstop being the amazing position that it is, Eno, features three players going consistently

1:25.7

in the first half of the first round.

1:27.9

That, of course, would be Trey Turner, Fernando Tatease Jr. and Bo Bichette.

1:32.7

And really, Turner versus Tatease seems to be the debate for the first overall pick for a lot of people who end up in that position.

1:39.4

So if you were lucky enough to have that spot, A, would you take one of those two and B, which one do you

1:46.0

prefer? Yeah, I think it's like a, it's almost a classic decision of floor versus ceiling,

1:52.2

where I think Tatisa's ceiling is higher and Turner's floor is higher. However, Turner's

1:58.2

ceiling is pretty good too. And I think once you have someone that has that combination, you go for the safer one,

2:06.6

I believe.

2:07.6

Now there are situations where it's, you know, there are leagues where you not only want to win

2:12.6

your league, but you want to maybe beat everybody, you know, sort of the NFBC thing where like there's the overall.

2:20.0

And in those cases, maybe a little bit more high risk, high variance selection like Tatis would make sense.

2:27.3

Because in order for you to beat every fantasy league team, you would probably need to have the best first round selection possible,

2:36.2

which would be drafting a lot more for sealing, which would mean Tatis goes first.

2:41.3

But I think for most of us, we're trying to win our league and just our league, and Turner is

2:46.5

the number one player for that.

2:48.6

He's shown us over time.

2:49.7

There's a little more power there than we thought there would be earlier in his career.
