Welcome in.

My name is Chris, and I have not shouted like that for about a month.

Hello there. How in the heck are you? Thank you for listening. It has been a month.

Huh. I wonder if anything interesting has happened in the NFL or quite frankly the world.

So, okay, you haven't heard from me in a little while I'm so appreciative that you decided to give a listen today and I wanted to start off the show

just by saying like covering sports is not a serious pursuit this is not a serious set of issues that we deal with.

You know, what people are dealing with in Ukraine. Like, that's serious. The world is fairly

maddening right now. And so, of course, when we talk about Russell Wilson getting traded and

we talk about it like it's some big important thing. Of course it's not really, right?

And the serious issues can be in our minds at the same time and we can have them in

perspective and it's fine.

I like to say as often as I can that you don't have to spout or even have an opinion

about everything in the world.

And in fact, we'd probably be a lot better off if people stuck to their areas of expertise before opening their mouths.

And so I say to myself here in early March of 2022, what are my areas of expertise?

I suppose I could do an hour-long podcast about what it's like to

smash my brain against the keyboard every day, continuing this very, very long, weird, and

complicated novel that I've been writing for two and a half years, and I'm not close to finishing.

But I would get bored of that. I really think you would get bored of that. So instead, I guess the NFL will have to qualify as my area of expertise. And that is what we will talk about today. And I'm very happy to have you here. And, you know, if it's as a distraction, great. You know, distractions are an important part of life. And I am happy to do that. So we have, of course, had the Super Bowl since I last talked to you.
