Summary
We kick off our season preview series, a collection of shorter episodes that look at each of Michigan's position groups ahead of the 2021 season. In our first episode, we look at the quarterback position, assessing the group's depth chart, position battles, biggest strength, biggest weakness, biggest question mark and make one bold prediction for the group in 2021.
At the quarterback position, we begin by looking at the position battle behind Cade McNamara, where JJ McCarthy and Alan Bowman will compete for second-string snaps. We go over what all three quarterbacks bring to the table, as well as what the Wolverines are looking for in a second-string quarterback.
We then look at the group's strengths and weaknesses. Shaw points to the group's productive high school careers, noting that Michigan is quietly more experienced at quarterback than usual, though he acknowledges that the position group might not be as physically gifted as it has been in year's past and questions Michigan's 2021 ceiling at quarterback. Lorenz lauds the group's throwing talent, while questioning the position's comfort in a high-caliber college game. Dan Villari's unique role is also discussed.
We close with our predictions, and assess what expectations around McNamara can be in 2021.

| 0:48.5 | Maybe it's some, maybe the biggest question if it's different than biggest weakness. |
| 0:53.1 | And then we're each going to take, make one bold prediction for the position group this |
| 1:00.1 | season. |
| 1:00.5 | So first off, naturally, as these things go, is, is quarterback. |
| 1:05.1 | Plenty of talk we've already, I mean, I think even last episode, we talked about how much Cade McNamara has |
| 1:12.0 | taken control of the quarterback room. It's not as much of a quarterback battle this season, |
| 1:19.3 | as much as it is just fall camp. It's about preparing the quarterback. So there are pros and |
| 1:25.0 | cons to that. I think this year it makes a lot of sense to let Cade McNamara start with the job. |
| 1:33.0 | Numerous accounts seem to hint that he has lived up to that, you know, that opportunity. |
| 1:40.5 | I think Steve, you and I were in agreement, probably 85, 90% chance in our opinion that Cade McNamara's starting week one. |
| 1:48.5 | So in that sense of depth, it's easy. |
| 1:50.8 | I think there might be a slight position battle for the number two spot. |
