Hey, Flamethrowers, Amir here with your first of episode. Happy New Year. Before I start, I want to talk about my own personal resolutions or goals that I'm looking forward to in this new year.

0:23.7

Of course, you know, I love Peloton, but one of my favorite Peloton instructors, Jess Sims, has a saying that's really been sticking with me because I think it applies so much to my own journey as well as how we think about a lot of sports that we cover.

0:35.9

And that is that you're a masterpiece and a work

0:38.4

in progress at the same time. Now, when I hear that, you're a masterpiece and your work in

0:43.5

progress at the same time, it really reminds me to pause and think about all the ways I'm

0:49.7

striving, everything I'm reaching for, but not losing myself, not beating myself up, not getting stuck

0:56.3

in inadequacies, even while you're reaching and pushing yourself for change or for more skills

1:03.8

or patience with yourself, whatever it is, whatever those goals are. And I think we have this

1:09.0

tendency at the beginning of a year to decide all the things

1:12.3

counterproductive to put ourselves on these imaginary timelines. And so thinking about the

1:29.2

duality of being both a masterpiece, just who you are in yourself, and also a work in progress,

1:36.5

feels really liberating to me. And I think about this for myself and the ways I want to have

1:42.5

patience with myself and push myself and challenge myself,

1:45.0

but also not do so in a way that, like, requires me to talk down on myself or get in my head

1:50.0

about who I am or what I'm doing. But I think about that when we think about sports that we

1:54.8

love and that we want to do better. And a lot of what we do here on Burn It All Down is exactly

2:00.2

that work. There's things that we love, Even with leagues that are constantly on our burn pile and there's things that we continually want better for the sports that we consume. We strive to uplift and hold up the examples, those torchbearers, as well as get rid and shed and burn down the things

2:20.7

that are just the excess baggage that are just at the phrase of the picture that we don't want in there,

2:25.1

that we want to crop out. And I hope we continue to bring that energy into 2022 and enlast beyond that

2:32.7

so that we can continue to make both sporting futures and our whole
