Summary

Back when 2020 was shiny and full of hope we shared our intentions for the year. Today we're checking in to see how those intentions have shaped our lives. We also share what we're recommitting to, what we're letting go, and what's helping us to reclaim this year that has felt so out of our control.

We also want to let you know that we've decided to skip the book club episode on The Giver of Stars that we had planned to do this summer. Book club episodes takes a little more preparation and we're needing to keep things simple right now. We would still highly recommend reading or listening to the book.

You're listening to the Girl Next Door podcast. I'm Kelsey. And I'm Erica. We're two former

0:08.8

next door neighbors and good friends who love a good chat and a good laugh. We're inviting you to come on

0:13.9

in, have a drink, and stay a while. Hey friend. Hey friend. Today we're going to revisit our intentions

0:20.1

and goals for 2020. But first, we want to

0:22.9

share that we've decided not to record a book club episode on The Giver of Stars, which was going

0:27.8

to be our summer book club episode. Book club episodes take a little bit more effort to prepare for,

0:33.4

and right now we're needing to keep things as simple as possible. So on to our topic today.

0:39.0

Given all that 2020 has brought, some of us may want to throw out any goals that we made for the year,

0:44.7

and honestly, that would be okay. But looking back at our goals might help us see what we still have

0:49.9

control over and will let us reclaim the year in a way. So remind me of your intention or word for the

0:55.4

year and how it's shaped your year so far. Okay. So I usually pick a word for the year and I didn't

1:02.1

honestly even remember it when we went to record this episode. I first looked at the outline. I'm like,

1:06.7

okay, what is my word? But I didn't remember it because I have really incorporated this so much

1:12.9

into my life that it's like automatic now. And so I feel really good about that. My word was

1:18.0

gratitude. And it just feels kind of clairvoyant to have picked that word because it has been such

1:23.9

a game changer for me in this super hard year, I had started a daily gratitude practice

1:30.2

kind of the end of 2019 and not knowing, obviously, how much I would need that very practice.

1:36.9

And it's very specifically just writing down five things every day that I'm thankful for.

1:43.1

And it is very much supposed to be

1:46.1

small things. So you're not supposed to write like my health, my family, my house. You know, it's

1:49.9

supposed to be maybe little things that happen throughout the day or just little things that brought

1:55.2

you joy. And so the nice part about that is that number one, it keeps you on the lookout for those things.
