Summary

Welcome back to the yearly format. 2018 was an awkward, in-between kind of phase for Taylor Swift and her fandom. It was uncharacteristically quiet for a year of an album cycle: there were some months where she wasn’t pictured at all, and her actual public appearances beyond the Reputation Stadium Tour were few and far between. Nevertheless, we found a lot to say about it. But of course, The Snakes cover the record-breaking tour, the setlist, guest appearances, and outfits. There are a few moments of hilarity: Katy Perry’s literal olive branch, the announcement of Taylor’s starring role as Bombalurina in Cats, and her first foray into activism. It was the year of TaydemoCAT. We end this transitional period with a stormy horizon: a new record deal with Republic and Universal. Enjoy! Welcome back to the evolution of a snake. I'm Zach. And I'm Madeline. And this is 2018, not part one. It's a whole damn thing because off the top, this was the most boring year of Taylor's career. Madeline, do you concur? I definitely concur. Earlier this morning, I was asking myself off the top of my head what happened in

1:30.1

2018 and there was a cricket in my head going, cricket, cricket, cricket, literally tour. That's it.

Rep tour. And Gorgina, by the way, but that's it. Other than that, I mean, not to get you too excited

about the episode by telling you how boring this year was, but I mean, we're going to have fun with it as we always do.

1:49.8

But there is something interesting about this year being so sparse. We were talking about this a little bit before we started recording. But when we're looking back at Taylor's career, especially like having, I mean, this is what, like five years off now, basically?

2:04.7

Having hindsight for this is kind of crazy.

2:08.2

Like, this is the least busy and booked year of her career that she's ever had, including when she was much less famous.

2:16.5

I guess it's because when you're less famous, you have to work harder at being famous.

2:21.6

But this impacted the success of reputation.

2:25.9

I really do think if she had had a bit more of a heavy hand, which kind of goes against the marketing that she put forward for it.

2:32.4

But she definitely could have done more. And we see

it several points throughout this year specifically that she just kind of said, I need my London boy.

2:42.9

She said, I need my London boy. She also was like in the opinion that like she wasn't going to be,
