We are back with Charles Leerson, the author of Ty Cobb, a terrible beauty.

You know, one of the arguments when the Hall of Fame

voting season would come around and people would say,

well, how can you deny Pete Rose's entry into the Hall of Fame?

How can you deny Barry Bonds entry into the Hall of Fame when they allowed Ty Cobb into the Hall of

Fame?

He was a racist and a murderer and a monster and so forth. And it turns out that the very first

player ever voted into the Hall of Fame with more votes than Babe Ruth we should point out was none of those things.

Not a saint, but certainly not a monster.

And it's all chronicled in a new book by Charles Lyrson called Ty Cobb, a terrible beauty.

So Charles, earlier we were dispelling the myths that Ty Cobb was a racist, that he was certainly in favor of integration, attended

Negro League games throughout the first pitch, but what about this charge that he actually killed a man in

Cleveland for being uppity? Well that I heard a lot you know when I was doing my

research several people said to me are you going to mention uh... this

that he killed this young black waiter
