| 1:03.4 | internment during World War II in relation to 2016 and 2017. But before we do that, |
| 1:09.3 | give us the quick summary of what this internment incarceration was. I actually did one of the things |
| 1:16.9 | you talk about in the book, which is the use of some of these words that are confusing words |
| 1:21.3 | of incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. For people who don't know what happened, |
| 1:26.4 | let's start there. Great. Well, the incarceration really began on Pearl Harbor Day. |
| 1:34.5 | Within 11 weeks of Pearl Harbor, over 110,000 Japanese Americans were picked up from their |
| 1:40.7 | homes and forcibly removed. The worry was that they were going to either collaborate or spy |
| 1:46.8 | for the government of Japan. And the idea was if we could put them in, what turned out to be |
| 1:52.3 | concentration camps, the security risk would be less than quite a bit. It began in late February |
| 2:00.6 | with executive order 9066, when President Franklin Roosevelt passed the order that basically allowed |
| 2:07.6 | the military to decide the fate of Japanese Americans. There was a lot of consternation. There |
