most of the time when people in the United States

on the left talk about dealing with economic injustice,

they leave this part out about the centrality of race.

And I think by doing that, not only is it dishonest,

it makes it very difficult to build coalitions.

Now each episode I do usually has a very easily

identifiable theme, it needs no explanation,

but other times it's a little bit more murky.

And this is one of those times,

so I just wanna set the stage here.

A few episodes back, there was a caller who asked

if focusing on what he referred to as identity politics

was a distraction for more important issues,

such as shifting away from capitalism

and its tendency to push us into imperialistic foreign wars.
