In this first episode ever of Left Out, we thought it would be appropriate to examine the origins of May Day,

or International Workers' Day.

Here in the U.S., however, the official holiday of Labor is an early September, namely Labor Day.

According to the Department of Labor's website,

quote, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement

and is dedicated to the social and economic achievement of American workers.

It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made in the strength, prosperity,

and well-being of our country.

Sounds like a redemptive story of workers celebrating their diligence and great successes in the good ol' U.S. of A,

where if you work hard and remain optimistic, you can achieve the American dream.

But I should note, or we should note, there is another holiday that isn't officially recognized in the U.S.

that commemorates labor and working people.
