I'm your host, Jason Snell. We are convening another edition of our old movie club. And because this episode, by my reckoning, is going to be released roughly on July the 4th of 2014. I have to explain to our non-US listeners, July the fourth of a very important holiday in the United States.

It is Independence Day.

And as a result of that incredible confluence,

old movie club has made a rash and ill-informed decision to discuss two films.

1776, a 1972 musical. And Yankee Doodle Dandy, a 1942 American biographical musical.
