Let me get this out of the way. Now, Tamera, tell me what's wrong with the credit card companies? Why do we need this legislation?

We need it because the entire industry is built on a business model of gotcha tactics that are designed to keep people in debt at a very high cost.

But that's what business is about. It's gotcha money.

And gotcha they do to the tune of $18 billion in penalty fees alone last year.

But don't pay the penalties and you don't have to pay the fees.

But they want you to and they design all sorts of tricks and traps to mess you up. Let me give you an example.

Let's say you're out of town. So your credit card bill, your payment arrives maybe a day late.

They're going to jack up your rate to 29-30% apply it to your existing balance and slap you with the fee.

They move PO boxes across the country. So hopefully your payment arrives just a little bit late. They send the bill even closer and closer to the due date.

They want you to trip up. That's how they do it.
