Welcome to St. Vincent's Parish Mission 2004. During this week, we will be speaking about the different characters who played a role in the drama of our Lord's passion.

Each evening we will present one or two persons involved in the passion of Christ.

Tonight I'd like to speak about two men who are of particular interest for us in the modern

world, Punch is Pilate and Herod. who are of particular interest for us in the modern world.

Punch is Pilot and Herod.

I thought that perhaps I should give you a little background information,

just as a reminder of the situation which led up to the meeting of Christ with Pilate. Remember that the chief priests of the Jews had apprehended Jesus

and sought to put him to death through envy.

They had brought false witnesses forward to testify against Jesus in a kind of mock and illegal

trial.

They found him guilty on the charge of blasphemy when Christ truthfully answered the question

the high priest who asked him under oath if he was the Christ, the son of God.

But the Jews could not put anyone to death without the consent of the Roman governor,

since at that time the Romans had conquered Judea and they were the ruling power.

The chief priest of the Jews therefore had reluctantly to bring Jesus to Punchus Pilate,
