Okay, before I answer this first question that we have today, I want to explain to you how this

0:10.0

hit me personally when I was a teenager. A leader, some guest came to our church, our

0:16.0

youth group, and actually spoke, and they said among other things that if I hadn't spoken

0:21.0

in tongues that I was not saved and that freaked me out.

0:26.1

I mean it just really really got to me.

0:28.7

I wasn't really well grounded in knowing the word very well.

0:31.9

I just had an authoritative person in the church

0:34.1

declaring to me that my eternal salvation was proven or disproven by the idea of

0:40.2

whether I had spoken in tongues or not. And I think that this is not only

0:43.9

unbiblical, but it's horribly abusive to people. And I am talking to you if you

0:49.8

have said this, if you have echoed these words to others, if you've told them that they have to speak in

0:54.1

tongues to be saved, I think you're abusing them spiritually and you have to repent. That's what I'm saying. I'm not so much

1:01.6

angry as I just honestly think I see clearly how bad this is.

1:06.6

So let me give you the biblical stuff that we have on this topic.

The case that people offer for why speaking in tongues is required to prove

1:16.4

salvation is usually based on a few passages in the book of acts and that's

1:20.0

pretty much it. But none of the passages they use are taken in context or used

1:24.3

carefully. They're just going to be like drive-by Bible study, right? Where you just

1:28.7

you mentioned a passage and you move very quickly on. That's my experience. So

1:32.4

let's look at a couple of them.

1:33.7

One of them is in Acts Chapter 2,

1:36.0

which shows that in the early church,
