Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Thursday,

the 20th of November, when a defence minister promised a firm response if Russia threatened the UK's

undersea cables.

Being no doubt, we will defend every inch of this country and our territorial waters.

The Home Secretary announces a shake-up of the migration system.

It's incumbent on me to think about the way that we have to reform this system,

to make a public argument for it, to win that argument,

to persuade people, and then to get this done.

And the shadow Foreign Secretary raises concerns about a reported peace plan from the United States designed to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

That will involve Ukraine making territorial concessions to Russia, with Russia gaining territory

or holding some of a lease arrangement where they effectively control the east of Ukraine.

But first, a defence minister has told MPs that Russia does not want the UK to know what its spy ship Yantar is up to.

The vessel was spotted off the north coast of Scotland earlier this week

and its crew have been accused of shining lasers at RAF pilots

who were monitoring the ship's course.

The Armed Forces Minister Al Kahn's said Russia

didn't want anyone to know what it was doing.

It does not want the world to know what it's doing, but we will not be deterred.

We will not let the Yantar go unchallenged as it attempts to survey our infrastructure,

and we will work with our allies to ensure that Russia knows that any attempt to disrupt
