Summary

What if the fastest way to feel lighter, connect deeper, and tell better stories is to mess up more often? We pull apart the myth of perfection and show how visible slip-ups—like a hilariously crunchy lasagna or a rogue typo on a slide—can lower pressure, spark laughter, and build trust. Instead of bracing for judgment, we explore how embracing everyday blunders signals humanity, invites closeness, and takes the fear out of trying. Here are two surprising reasons why mistakes are incredible and you want to make more of them.

0:17.4

The first is this.

0:18.8

When you make a mistake, it almost accidentally lowers your standards in the very best, most helpful way. For example, one time I had a friend coming over for dinner in New York and he was a new friend and I was excited to prepare something nice for him. And I totally burnt it. It was awful. It was a lasagna.

0:39.3

It was awful. It was crunchy. I used the no-cooked noodles and they were undercooked.

0:45.0

And what was so funny was that it actually became an incredible talking point. We laughed about

1:00.1

If he laughed at and ate my burnt lasagna, the standard has dropped. We are letting it be easy. We have a sense of humor about things.

1:08.8

The same thing happens if you maybe flub a presentation or show a slide that has a

1:13.9

typo in it. You know what? Nobody dies. Everything is okay. In fact, other people think,

1:19.6

oh, good to know that she's human. Good to know in this day and age that you are not a bot.

1:38.9

great conversation topics. Think about it. When you watch a movie or you read a book or any fiction or

1:45.1

nonfiction that you observe in the world, aren't the mistakes the best parts? Even though we're

1:50.7

throwing popcorn at the screen, even though we know they're going to come around, even though we know,

1:55.1

even though, even though, aren't the mistakes the juicy bits? We love chaos. We love laughing about mistakes. We love

2:03.1

hearing other people's mistakes. If there's anything I love to tune into it, someone saying

2:07.9

how they lost money or how they made a terrible decision or how they regretted something.

2:13.5

Not only is their lesson and wisdom and life experience that's garnered along the way,

2:18.1

but it's fascinating, it's funny.

2:20.3

In fact, it makes you more interesting.
