This is the Bible Book Club. I'm Susan and I'm Heather. And we're in the book of Second Samuel.

Welcome to the club.

In chapters five and six, we learn that the nation of Israel is finally united under King David,

and they need a capital. So David chooses Jerusalem. And he finds

a creative way into their fortress for total victory. Now, Israel has become a powerful nation,

and other nations want to find favor with them. So the King of Tyre offers up its rich resources

to build a palace for David. Other nations offer women. David

accumulates way too many new wives and concubines, and the Philistines are not happy about David's

fame and success, and they try to take him down twice. Both times, God gives Israel victory.

David has made two attempts to bring the ark to the capital. One failed,

one succeeded. Israel and David dance with joy, but not everyone's happy. McAll was jealous of David.

The attention he was getting was what she thought undignified and dancing in front of all the rest of the ladies

in town. So she didn't like that, that her husband was doing that. Probably that and all those new

wives at home. It creates a what do you call it? Yeah, divisiness. Yeah, divisiness. Exactly. Okay,

this is such an important episode and I really loved learning through it.

There are 55 chapters in 1st and 2nd Samuel, and without a doubt 2nd Samuel chapter 7 is the most important.

In fact, this chapter ranks as one of the most important chapters in the entire Bible.

Because in this chapter, God will make a covenant with David.

It will be the fourth and last covenant made in the Old Testament.

There is just one covenant in the New Testament, and that makes five covenants total in the entire Bible.

A covenant is a binding agreement between God and his people. Now, the five covenants in the Bible are all relational and interconnected. And this
