And we're in 2 Samuel chapter 22. We are almost done with 2 Samuel.

Chapter 2 though, or 22, we turn a corner of sorts. We're nearing the end of the book,

and with it we're also nearing the end of David's life. He's well into his 60s.

He's probably even maybe in his early 70s at this point.

And chapter 22 is really interesting because at first read,

it almost looks like it's out of place chronologically

because we have recorded in chapter 22 a psalm of David.

It's just kind of like, you know, right there at the, I mean, the book goes from a narrative

about David's life and David's battles and Israel's rebellion.

And then here's this Psalm, And it's actually Psalm 18,

for the most part. It's virtually identical to Psalm 18. And this particular Psalm is a Psalm

of praise and Thanksgiving. It is a really glorious Psalm. Charles Spurgeon says, we have another

form of this Psalm with significant variations and this suggests the idea that it was sung

by David at different times when he reviewed his own remarkable history

and observed the gracious hand of God in it all. So before we jump in, let's pray and we'll ask

God's blessing on our time. Lord, we want to just really quiet our hearts and settle our minds tonight so that we can hear

you speak into our lives through your word, through this portion that we have before us,

this Psalm really that we have before us tonight.

Lord, would you bless our time together in your word, we pray. In Jesus' name, amen.

All right, verse one, then David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord had delivered him

from the hand of all his enemies and, notice, from the hand of Saul.

And that's really what this Psalm is.
