Last episode in Chapter 11, we found that just when the Israelites are right where God wants them,

living well under a good king in the

promised land, David takes a wrong turn. He took a spring break from his duties as king and as a

military leader, which led to some sleepless pacing on the roof, which then spiraled

into lust, infidelity, and an unplanned pregnancy, and then even murder. We're just covering all

those commandments right there. He broke them all. He's breaking all the commandments. What began as a simple

break from years of battles becomes a serious misuse of power on David's part. As military leader of

Israel, David was used to issuing commands and prompt obedience.

He sent those under his command where he wanted and he expected to be obeyed. But David was using

that same power now for his own civilian pleasure. He sent for Bathsheba. He sent for Yoriah.

And he sent Joab instructions to kill Yariah. And as usual, everyone

obeyed. We ended the last episode with this information from 2 Samuel chapter 11. It said,

The thing David had done displeased the Lord. So that's where we ended. Nothing is hidden from God's

sight. And he loves David

too much to let him go any further in his sin. It's God's turn to send in this chapter. God sends

Nathan. God sends a message to David, and God sends consequences. Scene one, God rebukes, and David rep God sends consequences.
