The Bible Study Podcast, episode 531. Today, the Bible Study podcast continues a study of the kings of Israel and Judah with 2 Samuel 11.

0:17.5

Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. What we're going to cover today

0:22.5

is one of the reasons that I actually wanted to do this study, and it's a fairly seminal verse here in

0:28.3

the beginning of this story of the kings. Remember, we're way at the beginning. We've only had Saul and

0:33.4

David so far, and we're going to get a lot more kings, and things are getting a worse just to let you know. But today is when in David's life, things take a turn for the worse,

0:42.7

and this is David and Beth Shiba. Now, before we talk about this, I do want to put things in a little

0:48.0

context here because I had a conversation when I was in India recently with one of the

0:53.1

amateur traveler listeners who happened to be there, and we were talking about the Hindu religion because we were learning

0:59.1

a lot about it when we were there.

1:00.6

And it has all sorts of freaky stories about, you know, this particular son of this

1:05.1

god lost his head because this god got impatient, and it was replaced with the head of an elephant

1:11.1

and things like that that are strange.

1:13.6

And someone said something about the Hindu gods and the myths and they said, well,

1:17.8

the Old Testament was also, all myths also.

1:21.5

And I took some exception of that.

1:23.1

And I want to make sure that you understand that as we're talking about these kings,

1:29.5

David, for instance,

1:35.7

you can go right now to Jerusalem, and if you go just south of the city, just outside the Dungate, there is an archaeological dig there of the city of David. And I don't mean

1:40.6

Bethlehem, the city of David, I mean David's Jerusalem.

1:49.5

David's Jerusalem was built outside of what is now the old walls of Jerusalem, but it has been discovered and you can visit it. If we talk next about Solomon, you can go and see some of the

1:55.8

stones there in the western wall are still from Solomon's temple. And when we talk about Hezekiah later on,

2:03.6

you can go and there is Hezekiah's tunnel, just where the Old Testament said it was.
