0:00.0	We begin with breaking news. Two members of the West Virginia National Guard are in critical condition right now after being shot near the White House in what the mayor of Washington, D.C., called a targeted attack.
0:13.0	Again, those two guardsmen are in critical condition. And tonight, MS Now reports that multiple law enforcement sources say the suspect is Ramanula Lakenwall, a 29-year-old Afghan National.
0:27.2	The suspect is in custody and in the hospital.
0:30.6	He was shot multiple times and is in grave condition.
0:33.8	He is facing federal charges for an attack on federal officers.
0:38.1	Here is how officials described the attack at a press conference earlier today.
0:43.6	A suspect came around the corner, raised his arm with a firearm, and discharged at the National Guard members.
0:50.4	The National Guard members, there were other members that were in the area.
0:53.9	They were able to, after some back and forth, able to subdue the individual and bring them into custody.
1:00.2	What we know, Andrea, is that this is a target at shooting, one individual who appear to target these guardsmen.
1:09.3	This is, of course, an attack that happened in the context of Donald Trump's controversial
1:14.2	and possibly unconstitutional deployment of National Guard troops to major and heavily
1:19.5	democratic cities, including Washington, D.C.
1:22.9	Speaking earlier tonight, Donald Trump denounced the shooting as a, quote, an act of terror.
1:29.4	He also made blatantly political remarks attacking his predecessor's policies on Afghanistan
1:35.2	and called Joe Biden, quote, a disastrous president the worst in the history of our country.
1:42.5	After today's attack, Donald Trump ordered 500 more National Guard
1:46.9	troops to D.C. However, the National Guard is very limited in what it can do. The New York Times reports
1:54.2	more than 2,000 National Guard troops deployed to Washington in August after President Trump
1:59.4	took federal control of the city's
2:01.3	police and mobilized the troops in what he described as a crackdown on crime. Since then,
2:07.5	the troops have patrolled metro stations and tourist areas and picked up trash around the national
