The Bible Study Podcast, episode 570. Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the

kings of Israel in Judah with Second Kings 6.

Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host Chris Christensen. We continue on with another chapter that talks quite a lot about Elisha and not quite as much about kings, although there are other kings in this chapter. It starts with an axe head floats. The company of the prophets said to Elisha, look, the place where we will meet you is too small for us.

Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole, and let us build a place there for us to meet.

And he said, go. Then one of them said, won't you please come with your servants. I will,

Elisha replied, and he went with them. They went to the Jordan

and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water.

Oh no, my lord, he cried out. It was borrowed. The man of God asked, where did it fall? When he showed

him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float.

Lift it out, he said.

Then the man reached out his hand and took it.

It's interesting to see what prophets get their own books in the Bible and which ones don't.

And Elisha and Elijah are the two probably most interesting prophets in terms of major prophets

who are not major prophets in the sense that they have their own book.

All of their stories are here in the midst of this account of the kings.

And Elisha, as we saw in the last two chapters, is doing stuff.

And sometimes it's great big things like feeding multiple people.

And sometimes it's little things like finding a borrowed axe head.

And the thing that I think is interesting about that, I'm reminded of a story of someone I

heard who went on a trip to the Holy Land, and they went on a trip that was a group trip.

And one of the people on the trip was, I want to say, more religious than they were. And this is a religious trip, so that's a little odd to say.

But they would get up every morning, and they would pray about which shoes to wear.
