Welcome to the club and the book of Second Kings.

In chapters 19 through 21 of Second Kings, we met Isaiah for the first time.

He prophesied judgment for Assyria because they mocked God. Then he comforted King

Hezekiah prophesying victory over Assyria. That same night, God alone saved Jerusalem. The angel

of the Lord put to death 185,000 Assyrians. King He was a good king, but he was also human. He almost died

from illness but prayed to God and was granted 15 more years of life. But then he boasted about

his kingdom to the Prince of Babylon. Isaiah confronted him and prophesied that all the treasures

would be carried off by Babylon. Hezekiah's son, Manasseh succeeded him, and he was the worst

king, by contrast to his father. He pushed Judah over the edge. Judgment was certain. Amen succeeded

Manasseh, and he too did evil in the eyes of the Lord.

Amon's son Josiah succeeded him as king. Scene one, King Josiah discovers the long-lost book

of the law. The book of the law was the collection of scrolls that outlined the commandments of God.

The book was written under Moses and included

the first five books of the Bible called the Torah. Now the Torah, or Genesis Exodus Leviticus

numbers in Deuteronomy, were covered in Bible Book Club seasons 1 through 5. For us, these five

books are foundational for understanding God's redemptive plan from Abraham to Jesus.

For King Josiah and the people of Judah, the discovery of the lost book was life-changing.

The commandments in the book of the law were all they had, and they had lost it. As a result, they had lost their way.

Because without knowledge of God's plan, how can one live God's way? Heather and I hope Bible
