Hello, welcome to a brand new podcast from the BBC. This is something of an experiment. If you subscribe,

you can be part of the experiment. Our plan is simple in a sense to podcast every night the Grenfell

Tower Inquiry sits. We don't think

something like this has been tried before and we'll be finding out as we go what works in terms

of a podcast and what doesn't. We want to provide a clear briefing on what goes on each day

inside the inquiry, explaining technical evidence, demystifying jargon and procedures,

so we can all understand better what this important inquiry is trying to do.

We're starting now with a series of podcasts explaining how we got here.

Our nightly reports from Inside the Inquiry start on Monday the 21st of May.

Other media outlets will drift in and out of the inquiry as the news agenda dictates.

This podcast will not drift in and out. We'll be here every day the inquiry sits.

As we go along, please let us know what works for you and what doesn't.

and word of mouth will be very important to us. Most important, though, is that we do our best

to report this inquiry. Public inquiries never happen quickly, but because the Grenfell fire

has raised concerns about the safety of buildings across the UK, Sir Martin Moore

Bick, who chairs the inquiry, wants to publish an interim report as soon as possible.

After Phase 1 establishes the facts, Phase 2 will get into the design and construction

of the tower, what modifications were made to the inside and outside of the building, as well

as how the building was managed,

how the authorities communicated with residents, and fire safety.
