Calvary Church is dedicated to doctrine, and we want you to experience the life change that comes from

knowing God's word and applying it to your life. So we explain the Bible verse by verse, every chapter,

every book. This is expound. Let's have a word of prayer. Father, we now just want to settle our hearts into this moment.

Because we believe that all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable.

And we also realize that the Bible that we are reading from in the Old Testament tonight

is part of the very scripture that was Paul the Apostles Bible and our Lord Jesus and his Apostles Bible.

And all those people and authors of the New Testament,

when they referred to Scripture,

it was this Old Testament scripture

with all of its stories and lessons.

So I pray that as we examine the documents for ourselves,

we pray your spirit would teach us, instruct us,

help us to understand and know what you have for us from your word.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Now you're going to have to live again with this picture that's behind me of Jerusalem. It's a picture I shot early in the morning when I was there a few

years back. But the events of this book largely take place around what you are looking at. You are

seeing a modern version of an ancient piece of real estate.

You can look on your very right, your right, if you can see that gate that is well lit,

kind of that yellowy light, but it's a gate into the wall. That's called Stephen's Gate, and that is the gate that it is believed Stephen was dragged out of the city of Jerusalem in the Book of Acts and stone to death at.

And then if you follow the wall to your left, you will see a closed, double-arched gate. Can you see that? That's called the Golden Gate.

And it is the gate that gave direct entrance to pilgrims coming in from the Mount of Olives
