Last time in chapters 8 and 9 of Second Chronicles, we discovered that Solomon was quite the builder,

ventures as well. Those only served to increase his influencer status as he gained more followers.

The most famous was the curious queen of Sheba, who made an arduous trip to see his kingdom for

herself. She was impressed and rightly gave all the credit to Solomon's God.

They exchanged a few gifts and off she went. After that, there was a constant stream of kings

and officials who came to see the wise and wealthy Solomon. So in this episode, the chronicler is

going to transition to all the lesser kings. The nation will divide into

northern Israel and southern Judah. Now unlike First and Second Kings, the books of First and

Second Kings, which covers both kingdoms, Chronicles ignores the Northern Kings because they had no

divine promise. The promise from God was for the line of David

and their only hope is in him. The king who saves must come from that line. So the Northern

kings, they just don't count. Therefore, the chronicler focuses exclusively on Judah's 21 kings,

The chronicler adds new details, not in the books of kings, to teach the returned exiles through character studies of the faithful and the unfaithful.
