| 0:00.0 | current temperature is 38 degrees winds are out of the southwest about five miles an hour later this afternoon decreasing cloudiness we do have sunshine over notre dame stadium here at the moment i expect to be in the low to mid 40s |
| 0:14.0 | northern football brought to you by ford we take a look at the starting lot of for today's game uh offensively for the irish to love mal at one wideout Bobby brown is the other Luke pedigoo is going to be at one tackle Mike Rosenthaled at the other but we'll have a change in the guard Tom as Tim Ritter moved over to left guard next to Luke Pedigoo and because of the injury to Jerry Wisney Mike Gandy gets a chance to start he's a 64 24 29-pound junior out of Garland, Texas. He'll start at right guard, and John Morandi's in the middle. Savari Holloway, of course, is the tight end. Gerius Jackson starts a quarterback, Jamie Spencer at full, Autry Denton at tailback. But that one position change, does that make much difference? Well, I really don't think so because Tim Ritter is, you know, you can switch from one guard to the other. And he played tackle as he played tight end. Yeah, he's a pretty versatile kid. They were very high on Gandy. The fact that Gandy is just a junior and hasn't played much, but they're very high on him. So I don't really think that will affect him all that much. LSU's offense at split-end, Abram Booty. He scored a touchdown against the Irish last year. The other wideout is going to be Larry Foster, very, very dangerous. The tight end, a freshman by the name of Kyle Kipp. At the tackles, they have Lewis Williams and Brandon Winey. The guards are Ryan Thomassey and Trey Langley, the center is Todd McClure. The quarterback, very much like Jerry is Jackson. Running-type quarterback is Herb Potter. They have a fullback by the name of Tommy Banks, who can be very, very explosive. And, of course, they have an All-America-tailback in Kevin Falk, as Paul said, will be a number one draft choice |
| 1:44.6 | when the NFL goes around to drafting college players next spring. |
| 1:49.8 | So we've got a football game here that is very, very important to two football teams that are, |
| 1:56.5 | well, for different reasons. |
| 1:57.9 | Notre Dame, of course, trying to land one of the top spots in the bowl championship series and LSU trying to salvage its season, win today, hopefully win against Arkansas next week, and at 6 and 5 get a bowl bid, which they probably will. Well, you look at the crowd, Tony, and maybe it's because of the weather, it's a little chillier, it's more football weather, but the crowd is really into this. |
| 2:21.9 | LSU's got to think, you know, theoretically we must take them out of the game. |
| 2:24.7 | I don't know that that's possible, but that's certainly what they'll think. |
| 2:30.9 | You mentioned Kevin Falk, and I just want to say that Kevin Falk was a very highly mentioned name touted for the Heisman, and only the record of the LSU team has diminished that. |
| 2:37.2 | Well, the first part of this chess match has already been played. |
| 2:41.4 | The LSU has won the toss. They have deferred. Notre Dame will kick off. |
| 2:46.3 | More and more teams seem to do that. I think there is a case of the nerves on the first drive. By the same |
| 2:52.0 | token, if you can conquer that, get the ball first, it gives you one more position. And if your |
| 2:56.6 | defense is good enough, you create a turnover, you get the jump start on the opposition while |
| 3:01.2 | you're in pretty good stead. And let's face it, Notre Dame generally comes out with that first possession of the third quarter |
| 3:09.0 | and goes downfield and more often than not has gotten the score. And they have been, as we said, |
| 3:14.4 | very good on the third quarter, 81 points to only three for the opposition. Only three points |
| 3:20.3 | scored against Notre Dame in the third quarter was the Travis Dorsey's field goal by |
| 3:25.2 | Purdue. That's uncanny. I never broke it down that way, but one of the things is that, and Bob |
| 3:30.2 | Davey alluded to it many times, they don't have the big breakaway threat sparkling, although I think |
| 3:35.9 | they do and they can. They haven't, but they did do the other thing. They had sustained drives that took time up |
| 3:42.4 | in the length of the field in that third quarter. They don't have the breakaway threat a la Ricky |
