We all welcome to Philly's baseball, and yes, we are going to have a baseball game today.

In fact, two, a double-header, the Pills and the Montreal Exposed.

It has been since Monday that the Phillies have last played.

Our special guest today is Tim McCarver, Philly's catcher, and Tim, how does this affect the ball player this long layoff?

Well, it affects us quite a bit, I think, Harry, particularly at this point in the season, with two off days and then two rainouts, if this were to happen in July. I think it's probably a break for the club, but right now I'm kind of anxious to see what it's going to do. However, we have been working out the last few days, and we're hoping that we can pick up where we left off Monday in Pittsburgh.

Of course, you'll be catching the first game, and how about

the expose lineup? For example, I've got to ask you about Dave Cash. Dave Cash doubled twice

down the line against the Phillies at Veterans City, but normally you figure inside up, the ball

inside to us, but he was pulling him inside out, the ball inside to us.

Today's difficult hitter to pitch to Harry.

He goes the other way with the pitch away and can pull the pitch inside.

We like to pitch him inside, and I think stay away from his slot.

His slot is a fastball.

He's a fastball hitter. And last year, actually, we didn't,

I think it was a learning process for us. And after playing with Dave for so many years,

you'd think that we'd know how to pitch him. But he thinks also, and consequently that can make

for a difficult time with him. And we had a difficult time with him last year until we started

going to breaking balls and particularly with lefty i remember one game here in the ninth inning

with the base was loaded when the game that steve won one to nothing a big win for it and

Dave was hitting one of the most notorious hitters really with a man on third base because he's going to make contact and get the runner in.

And we threw him a curve ball and he had a short fly ball, the right field, and we ended up winning the ball game. And I think that was an example of how we're going to pitch him today. We're going to go probably more with breaking balls. This is a very difficult lineup to face for a left-handed pitcher. They've got some good right-handed hitters, Tony Perez, Dawson, Valentine. I remember three pitches at Valentine hit off the lefty last year for home run, and all of them were about in the same spot inside, and we're going to stay away from him today. And meless, you know, you mentioned all those players, and of course, the guy that's off to a great start and appears to be a much-improved hitter is Larry Perry. Yes, he's a tough hitter, and we last year pitched him away, and they told us in Winterball, I think, after the game, that he was handling the ball away much better. And I think today we may be coming inside a little bit more on him. He's a changed hitter.
