Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome once again to Major League Baseball.

Exciting variety, we hope, today, tomorrow, and Sunday.

As the Cubs close out, their 1974 home season against

the St. Louis Cardinals. And anytime these two teams meet, of course, there is an exceptional

rivalry going. Dates back to the early days of the National League Baseball history.

But this weekend, there's something special because the Cubs, while they have been in last place, the Eastern Division, for too many months in this 74 season, and have been mathematically eliminated from the division race for some time, certainly will be a key factor or can be a key factor in determining the winner in the National League Eastern Division.

They have three games here with St. Louis this weekend,

then three Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights of next week at Pittsburgh.

And those two teams now are deadlocked for first place in the Eastern Division of the National League.

And this afternoon, one of the all-time greats in baseball,

a sure member of the Hall of Fame when he is qualified after finishing his playing days, Bob Gibson, warming up down the right field line.

And against him, one of the younger members of the Cubs cast this year, right-hander Tom Detoury.
