This is Bill Mercer with Harry Carey in White Sox Park for the first of a three-game weekend

series with the Western Division leading Oakland Athletics.

The A's come in tonight.

Four and a half games ahead of Texas, and as we just reported, Texas has been rained out again.

They have had in Texas rain over the last eight of the last 10 days.

And they've had some very severe flooding around the North Texas area.

And it was very cloudy down there today

and raining though it has evidently increased and now that game is rained out

tonight Texas playing Kansas City on the weekend and then a series with the

Chicago White Sox beginning Tuesday with that double header the White Sox can determine the winner of the West Division

by playing six games with Oakland, three this weekend,

three next weekend in Oakland,

and the four games in Texas starting Tuesday.

And the two young pitchers going tonight

have not faced each other, nor each other's club, this year.

Mark Johnson, 8.4, going for the White Sox, and Glenn Abbott, 5 and 5.4.
