Turkish President Recep Erdogan's rule in Turkey started off in a promising direction, but

soon devolved into corruption and authoritarianism as he shunned his party's political allies

in the Gulen movement, eventually labeling them a terrorist organization vent on taking

over the government.

Since then, over 50,000 members of the Gulen movement have been arrested for nothing

more than their political affiliation.

And his canter began using his platform as an NBA player to draw international attention

to this dire situation, making him a wanted man in his beloved turkey.

As efforts to silence NS have bailed, Erdogan has brought down his irre instead upon NS'

father.

In 2018, Dr. Mehmet Canter was sent to prison on false charges of terrorism.

Ultimately, sunlight proved to be the best disinfectant when NS was able to use his platform

as an NBA star to win his father's freedom, but he is keen to remind us that there are so

many more political prisoners still suffering through the authoritarian rule of Erdogan.
