This is last Tuesday night in Oakland, California. At that, Reggie Jackson, the right fielder of the open

age.

Rob Edgar sends a picture and Jackson sends a long drive to deep straightaway center and there it goes

the 30 of home runs of the season.

Jackson just misses by one day of becoming the second player of Major League History to hit 30 home runs before July 1st.

Babe Ruth, the only man who's ever done it in Major League History.

So as Jackson is saluted on the scoreboard and open,

we'll salute him here today on baseball today.

This is Kurt Gowdy, along with Tony Kubeck and we didn't have a lot of weird events

happen in baseball this week Tony, but we did have the Red Sox go into a tail spin. In fact,

the Eastern Division of the American League which is supposed

to be the toughest division and have the most exciting race now it finds only probably Detroit

right now gaining a little bit on Baltimore.

Right here in this Western Division of the American League is the real story though I think

and it's between these two ball clubs today.

The Minnesota Twins versus the Oakland A's, they've got quite a pennant race going on.

You know, another surprise in this division has been to play the Seattle Ball Club.

For a young expansion club they've done very well.

And over in the National League, of course, the Western Division of the National League with

Atlanta, the Dodgers, the Reds, and the San Francisco Club.

That's the most closely bunch race of the four divisions.
