Our day here in Detroit has continued to be on the very nice side after that bit of rain we had during the opener.

The breeze continues to blow out toward right field, and as you hear the chorus of booze in the background, they greet the umpires as they move out of the field along with manager Mayo Smith.

Mayo was thrown out of the first game by umpire Bill Ketteman, but of course he can return for the second game of the double header.

He has not thrown out for the afternoon.

Ralph out joins the meeting at home plate and the exchange line-up cards.

Hauk with a bit of a smile on his face, perhaps needling Mayo a little bit.

And as we look down there, we also see Bill Kinneman smiling a little bit.

So the hard feelings that erupted momentarily over the one run,

the winning run scored by the Yankees in the first game,

evidently have passed.

Yankees winning the opener by a score of 4-2-3.

And the Yankees 10 hit attack included home runs by Bobby Cox, his second of the year.

Joe Pepitone is fourth of the year.

Pepitone's homer tied the game at 3-3 to 3.

And later, Cox, not with a home run, but with a ground ball to shortstop,

drove in the winning run of the game for the Yankees.

Now the starting lineups for this afternoon's second game as the Tigers take the field.

The Yankees have Harris Clark at second base.

In left field, it's Roy White.

Mickey Mantle will be at first base.
