Hi, everybody.

This is Kurt Gowdy, your play-by-play broadcaster of NBC's Major League Baseball, along with Pee Wee Reese and Sandy Cofax. Today, we're in Tiger Stadium as two contending teams in the American League collide here. While the Minnesota Twins in Chicago, White Sox are playing over in Chicago. The Tigers and the Red Sox are going at it here.

And of course, the Red Sox have been the surprise team of the American League this year.

A club that finished ninth last year, which has many fine players right now is in penant contention

and plays 47 games at home in the last half the year.

The Tigers went into a bad slump for a spell, losing 14 out of 19, but they bounce back now and a 1-5 in a row.

They defeated the Red Sox last night in 11 innings for their fifth victory in succession,

but I believe Pee We Reese and Sandy Kofax will concur that the Red Sox was four hitters in the top ten of the league, came up with three runs to tie the ball game last night of the ninth inning, and that's the kind of club they are. You can't count them out without hitting in any game. What do you think, Peewee? Well, Kurt out have to agree with you because the fans last night here. They had 25,000 of them. They did not leave this ballpark because they thought that this ballpark club does have a closey ball club, and they showed just that, but they lost another one-one ballgame. I'm looking forward to seeing this Boston ball club because we haven't seen him this year. Sandy, about you? Well, I feel the same way. They've got some fine players on the ball club like Kistramski and Petra Selle that I've never seen. I've never seen them play, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. I know I'm going to see some of them in the All-Star game, but I want to see him before that. Well, it seems like that we do know this Boston ball club, but Mr. Gowdy's always talking about what a great ball club they have. And, of course, the Detroit Ball Clubs had a few injuries, but they're sticking right in there.

I think they'll stay in there if they can stay close till Keline gets back I think they've got a good chance uh it's a little tough on a ball club to lose uh you know the number one ball player on the club and possibly number one player in the league and stay in there.

They hurt them physically on the field and mentally.
