Today we have with us to help honor him, the President of the American League, Mr. Joe Cronin.

This is Museo. Ladies and gentlemen, American League is very thankful for Gussie Bush, Bing

Devine and Warren Giles for the invitation to be with you today. As an ex-ball player, I know just exactly how Stan Musial feels today, and we who have been

in baseball will always remain indebted to him for his great contributions to the game.

In behalf of the American League, I'd like to present to stand the man this plaque.

The plaque reads, the American League of Professional Baseball Club is proud to join in an expression of esteem for Stan Musial on the conclusion of his playing career,

which in every way on and off the field of play, has been a credit to baseball,

September 29, 1963. Thank you.

Thank you. Ford C. Freck. Mr. Freck. Much has been said, much can be written about records. Home runs, two base hits, extra bases, run scored.

That is only part of the story.

Stan's story is greater than that, greater than the story of many other stars who have preceded

him, because he has been great off the field, great on the field.

His errors have always been errors of physical failing of the Rennie,

never errors of the heart, never errors of the minds. As Sid Keener told you in a few

short years, the time will come when Stan will rightfully take his place among the other heroes in baseball's

Hall of Fame. And when that time comes, I hope the plaque they unveil on that day will not

concern itself with statistics and figures and matters for that sort, I can think of nothing more perfect

when that time comes that that plaque which is unveiled says, Stan Musil, here stands baseball's happy warrior. Here stands baseball's happy warrior. Here stands baseball's happy warrior.
