Yes, the American League champion New York Yankees

against the National League champion Pirates of Pittsburgh

in the 57th annual greatest show on earth,

baseball's World Series.

A standing room only crowd of around 38,000 fans

has gathered here at Forbesfield

to witness the start of the best four out of seven classic.

Yankee manager Casey Stengel has named right-hander Art Dittmard to open it up for New York.

Dittmar during the season won 15 ball games and lost nine.

He is warming up down here alongside the third base foul line.

Danny Murtaugh, the skipper of the Pirates, is going with his 20-game winner,

right-hander Vernon Law, who is also warming up over here in front of the first base dugout.

It was just 33 years ago to this day, October the 5th, that these same two teams battled for the

baseball championship, and in that year, 1927, the Yankees swept through the Pirates in four straight, and the Yankees are favored again this year.

The Yankees flew in Monday afternoon from New York, and they had a workout yesterday here in the Pirates Home Ballpark.
