Summary

James hosts Eric Simon and some friends to preview Torg Eternity which will be up on Kickstarter soon. After earth has been invaded by a host of hostile dimensions a braves group of heroes has banded together across timelines and realities to defend humanity: The Storm Knights. Thier resistance to extradimensional influence is small yet determined. Recently a group of their operatives went missing in the domain of the tyrannical Cyber Pope. Torg Eternity. For those who don't know their early 90s role-playing history, Torg is a multi-genre interdimensional role-playing game created originally by Greg Gordon

and someone you may recognize from one of my other podcasts Bill Slavisheck at West End Games.

In case you're not a dedicated fan of Never Tell Me the Pods,

Bill Slavishek also worked on the Star Wars West End role-playing game,

and he did quite a bit of work for it.

Bill came up with a lot of details that today make up the Star Wars canon.

He named Twelex, Rhodians, and expanded a lot on the unfinished details of the Star Wars universe.

Torg is a game where he allowed that creative talent to flow freely.

The basic premise of Torg is that other dimensions are invading Earth.

Different sections of the planet have been completely overtaken by other worlds.

For instance, the United States is overrun by dinosaurs.

Turg does a good job of writing the line between taking itself seriously and not taking itself too seriously.

In fact, Torg is a tongue-and-cheek acronym for that other role-playing game.

Now, if the bonkers setting and tentative connection to the Star Wars Expanded Universe wasn't enough to get me excited about this game,

I'm also pleased to tell you that Torg is one of the crunchiest games we have ever had on the show.

I am constantly contacted by people asking why I don't have more mechanically complex systems on the show.

Part of the reason is it takes so much more to learn those games.
