Thank you. I want to begin by just entertaining the question, why this material?

Why spend the amount of time we're going to spend considering the unique

temptations that surround ministry in the local church? Not just pastoral ministry, but anyone who gives him or herself to ministry

or is connected to someone in ministry.

I think that there are three things that have motivated me that have put inside of me

particular passion for this material.

And I want to begin by sharing those with you.

The first one is my own story.

Some of you may have heard my story.

If you haven't, here it is.

I was a very, very angry man.

I didn't know I was an angry man.

My wife knew that I was angry.

My children knew that I was angry. My children knew that I was angry,

but I didn't know I was angry.

I was a pastor.
