Why does a church body like mine have confessions?

We have an entire book called The Book of Concord that was published in 1580.

And why do we further not only say, well, this is a close approximation of what you

ought to believe if you're a Lutheran, why do we say of our cold ministers that they must

subscribe unconditionally to that 1580 book of Concord?
