I'm your host Heather Ashley, and today's case is out of Setzuma, Florida.

From the moment Hailey Ann Marie Cummings was born on August 17, 2003, she was loved and adored by

her parents Ron Cummings and Crystal Sheffield. They just could not get enough of Hailey's blonde

curls, brown eyes, and mega-watt smile. When this girl smiled, her entire face did,

her eyes lit up, and it felt like a smile that came from her soul. When it comes to Hailey's story,

it's important to note a couple of things. Her parents were really young when they had her,

Ron was 19 and Crystal was 18, and they both had some issues with drug abuse.

Ron had been arrested twice, once for threatening to kill a man at a stoplight, and once for drug

possession. Despite their issues with the above, there's little doubt that Ron and Crystal

loved Hailey. They shallward her with affection. It wasn't long after Hailey's birth that she and

her dad became inseparable. She was a daddy's girl through and through, and the two went everywhere

together. 18 months after Hailey was born, Ron and Crystal welcomed a son. Hailey proudly took

on the role of being an older sister. I mean, she was loving, thoughtful, and caring. Everything

you'd want your oldest child to be. Because of that, it wasn't long before they started calling

Hailey little mama because she was always taking care of her brother. The same year, Hailey's brother

was born, Ron and Crystal separated. Almost immediately, they started fighting over custody of their

two children. The Florida Times Union reported that Ron argued in court that Crystal used cocaine

and wasn't responsible enough to care for their children. In turn, Crystal argued that Ron was a

known drug dealer and was a violent and impulsive man. In the end, the judge awarded Ron full custody

because his job could possibly lead to benefits like health insurance for the kids. The judge felt
