It's November 15th, 1924, on a luxury yacht in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California.

The 205-foot yacht, called the O'Nighta, is owned by Media Mogul William Randolph Hurst.

The sea is smooth and the night is balmy.

The captain is touched in his guests' mingle on the deck of the yacht, sipping cocktails and eating or derves.

The guest list is made up of largely Hollywood celebrities, producers, directors, and actors.

Among them is Charlie Chaplin, the famous star of the silent film era.

He's silent tonight, too.

Watching from afar as William Randolph Hurst converses with a group of actresses who hang on his every word.

You know why they left the Church's opening Cleveland during this year's Republican convention, don't you?

No, why? So the delegates could hear some excitement.

Not all the ladies pretend to laugh.

Screen actress Marion Davies rolls her eyes.

Chaplin is awestruck by her beauty, and as Hurst tells another joke, Davies cuts her eyes at Chaplin.

Well, I for one don't believe the progressives are here to stay, after all, a progressive is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet.

Davies silently gestures for Chaplin to follow her.

But she's in a relationship with William Randolph Hurst, an open secret common knowledge in Hollywood,

and Hurst is a powerful film producer, so Chaplin doesn't want to burn a bridge.

Still, Davies offers too enticing to turn down.

Chaplin follows her below deck.

It doesn't take too long for Hurst to notice Davies absence.

He searches every inch of the deck, but his lover is nowhere to be found.
