And now out to Riggley Field and Hal Thornton, who is going to give us some inside information on today's game, right from the playing field. Take it away, Hal Totten. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Good afternoon from Rigny Field, the home of the Cubs in Chicago, where the Cubs come home this afternoon to open a final four-game series of the St. Louis Cardinals,

and where we're on the field for a little play game broadcast, looking over a crowd of 20,000 people, 15 at least, probably 20,000 before the game is underway, and a real welcome home crowd.

Cardinals are finishing their in-field practice. The weather today is rather amazing. It started out this morning, cloudy and finally rained a little.

Right now a nice strong north-northeast wind that stirred things up.

It's pleasantly cool out here.

The sun is out, and it's going to be quite an afternoon.

See, comes to come home from a trip that, while it was nowhere near as successful as the preceding road trip,

were still quite a trip on the road.

And yet they lost several tough ball games, very tough ball games, and some of the fans have wondered,

oh, you know, questions that come to me time and again there.

What's wrong with the Cubs and this, that and the other thing?

Well, my answer has always been that as far as I can tell, there's nothing matter with the Cubs. It might not have been hitting for the moment or something like that. So I've asked the young man, a very red-headed young man, to come over here and chat with me this afternoon, and tell you a little bit of the inside of something to perhaps doesn't ordinarily come to your mind.

Along this line, this man is Johnny Gordon, the bit of the inside of something that perhaps doesn't ordinarily come to your mind.

Along this line, this man is Johnny Gordon, the coach of the Cubs, whom we've talked to before,

and one of the coaches' chief jobs is not only to help develop young players to keep them going and correcting false,

but keep a ballplayers head up and keep him going good.

And I just want to ask Johnny Gordon a few questions along the lineup.
