Welcome back to the show. This is, of course, David Scales, and today I'm bringing you an episode

0:08.0

of Wax On with filmmaker Ben Gulliver. His film, The Sea Wolf, is the single best feature-length

0:15.4

surf film that I've seen this year. I saw it at a premiere in Huntington Beach a few months back.

Ben is actually still

0:21.7

touring the film, and so you might be able to find dates for a theater near you. You can do that

0:28.7

on his website, the seawolfmovie.com. The digital release date for the film is yet to be confirmed,

0:35.3

but I will certainly keep you informed of that as soon as it's ready.

0:39.5

To view, I will keep you posted. There's a possibility, though, that you don't know the name Ben Gulliver.

0:45.7

I didn't until the film started being advertised. And that's because Ben doesn't come from the surf world.

For example, it might be a story that was written by somebody who actually went to journalism school,

1:28.3

learned to the craft, and then just applies that craft to one of the many fascinating figures that we have in surfing,

1:36.3

or one of the many fascinating stories that we have in surfing.

1:40.3

And that's really how I feel about Ben's work with the Seawolf.

1:44.8

The added bonus here is that Ben's actually a huge fan of surfing and like I said, a huge

1:50.6

fan of surf film.

1:52.9

What I feel like Ben's done here is really to revitalize the medium of surf film by stimulating

1:58.7

an old and somewhat abandoned theme in surfing, and that is the theme

2:03.0

of exploration. Almost all the films you see nowadays are of waves that we've discovered 20 plus years ago,

2:10.4

and that we've seen ad nauseum. The seawolf is to cold water exploration what other films of the
