Today on the show we'll be discussing the new Bible movie Risen about a Roman officer who

witnesses the crucifixion of Jesus and investigates the mystery of the empty tomb.

And this will involve spoilers, so just be aware of that.

And I'm joined by two guests.

So first up, we've got Richard Carrier, who you may remember from our panel on Noah back in episode 108, and our panel on Exodus,

Gods and Kings back in episode 130. He holds a PhD in ancient history from Columbia and is the author of such books

as not the Impossible Faith proving history and on the

historicity of Jesus which argues that Jesus Christ may never have existed.

So Richard, welcome to the show.

And also joining us today is Dan Barker.

He served as a Christian preacher for 19 years, but left Christianity in 1984,

a journey he recounts in his book,

Losing Faith and Faith, from preacher to atheist.

Along with his wife Annie Lorry Gaylor, he's the co-president of the Freedom from

Religion Foundation, which works to uphold Church State Separation.

His newest book, which he conceived with Richard Dawkins, is called God, the most unpleasant character

in all fiction.
