What the fuck is going on? That was what woke Jude Tebbit up in the early morning hours of

September 11, 2011. She had arrived at the Kawau Safari village in Kenya the day before and

went to sleep that day with plans to swim and snorkel in the waters right outside her open-air

bungalow. Once awake, she realized that her husband, David Tebbit, was struggling with an unknown man

and the voice that had woken her was his.

She had no time to fully process what was happening before two other men with rifles

grabbed her and pulled her from the bed.

She caught one more glance at David, still fighting with one man as she was

dragged out the door and along the beach. She asked them what they were doing, where they were

taking her, but got no response. They walked along the edge of the water before suddenly

and Gladys Atkinson. Her family scraped by with Thomas working odd jobs as a laborer and Gladys

working as a cleaner. Judith, who went by Jude, was premature and had a hole in her heart

between her right and left ventricles.

Because of that, she was frequently ill as a child.
