Hello, everybody, and welcome to soccer 101. My name is Taylor Rockwell. This week, we're moving away from the pitch to talk about something

slightly more delicious, literally speaking, food. Stadium food, in particular. How long has food been

available at soccer stadiums around the world? How have options on sale evolved over time? How do

offerings differ around the world? Is the pie the greatest form of stadium scran? All that and more

on this episode, which will no doubt feature Graham Ruffman making an impassioned argument for the benefits of football pie.

Graham, I assume you wrote a doctoral dissertation on this at some point.

I didn't have to write it, Taylor.

I already had it from university, the dissertation.

I've got several of them, actually.

I'm very excited to hear all about football pie, stadium pie, whatever you want to go with.

And I want to actually start there.

I found this a difficult one to research because more than ever, like usually if you're like, why, what do the numbers on the back of football shirts mean?

You're normally going to get a soccer entry for that one.

With what food is served at a football stadium, you're normally going to get a soccer entry for that one. With what food

is served at a football stadium, you're getting a lot of like nachos and like ice cream and a

mini football helmet. It was difficult to kind of differentiate this one a little bit to make it

just about soccer. So I think more than ever on Soccer 101, I'm going to be referring to it as

soccer for an episode. Yeah, football as an American football, is quite dominant in the stadium food sphere.

And certainly with, what did you said, served in a helmet.

Why is it always served in something peculiar?

Because then you can keep it as a child.

I never wear it, but it will be commemorative so you can charge $26. Well, that's a key point.
